And all of a sudden, its 2022!

And with that, another year goes by. Another year where communities had to revamp themselves and learn how to thrive in a online world. Here in NZ, after what started to look like we were pretty much bat to normal life, the reality of living during a pandemic stroked back, like the villain in the second movie of a trilogy. But if this pandemic is a trilogy, the good news is that we are going to the third instalment… There will be strife, there will be challenges, but hopefully the writers of this cosmic trilogy are aiming for an ending where all of us completes the hero’s journey successfully.

2021 was a year of changes for me.

In the last months of 2020 I was promoted to Digital Integration Practice Lead at Theta. It was the first time that I had to manage a group of people not just technically, but also from a career point of view. It was daunting and exciting in equal amounts. And I couldn’t ask for a better group of people to manage – technically fantastic, but most important, a group of people that took care of each other. One of my selling points of each new or prospective hire was that we had a team that behaved like a team. There was ups and downs. People left when I least expected, some others gave me the chance to counter balance offers. Looking back at that year, I learned a lot! Not as much technically as I could have, but I got a lot of other opportunities that only this role could give me, and for that I am really grateful.

The last months of 2021 also brought another big experience and learning – I had to say goodbye to a company I worked for 11 years (probably the longest I’ve worked anywhere). It was very bittersweet to say goodbye to lots of good friends, projects that I cared about, and the team that I was just learning to help grow to the potential I know they have. But why I left, you might ask?

Because 2022 will start for me on unfamiliar, but exciting territory – after 11 years of Theta, I am moving to what I consider one of my dream jobs: I am joining Microsoft as a Senior Program Manager with the Logic Apps team! From 10 January onward I will have the privilege of helping the team of one of the technologies I used the most for the last 5 years to take it to the next level. Everything I heard so far makes me feel that it will be an incredible adventure! Learning a new job, adjusting to a new team (although I am happy to see so many familiar faces there, thanks to the MVP interactions), dealing with different time zones, working remote full time, all of this will be things I will learn (and hopefully master) this year.

I might have to go for a deep dive while I learn a lot of those new things but, as much as I can, I will continue sharing the things I am learning and any tips and tricks I might pick up along the way. Stay tuned (and wish me luck 😉)!
